5 Bible Verses to Pray

Image Credit: Brigitte Tohm

When I first began to pray I had no clue what to say to God. I so badly wanted to sound like I knew what I was doing, like I knew what to say in order for Him to hear me. But the words just never came to me and the words that did come weren't natural.

I knew that I was missing the point of it all. Prayer wasn't the time to try to sound eloquent or try to impress God. Because he already knows who I am and where I am in my spiritual journey. So I scraped all that and went to back to the basics.

Slowly but surely I began searching the Bible for scriptures that reflected what I wanted to say to God. Because I knew I wasn't the first to say it and wouldn't be the last. Today I'm sharing 5 of the Bible verses that I prayed early on in my spiritual journey.

5 Bible Verses to Pray

Proverbs 3:5-7

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.

Psalms 119:10-13

With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Blessed are you, O Lordteach me your statutes!
With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth.

Jeremiah 29:11-14

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

Hebrews 13:5-6

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear;
what can man do to me?”

James 1:4-6

And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
