How to Plan Your Best Year Ever

November 29, 2021

When I wrote this post in 2017, I was in a different place. I am amazed to just re-read and see my personal and spiritual growth. This 2022 when you are planning your next year be sure that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are at the forefront of your plans.

2021 was filled with so many changes and battles. But what stands out the most is at the highest and lowest I always felt like God was with me. Whether it was a minor day-to-day nuisance or a major life change I knew he was right there holding my hand through it all.

I want to just encourage you to walk into 2022 with that same understanding. Call out to God. Welcome Him into your day. Leverage the gift of the Holy Spirit. When you fall short remember that Jesus already paid the price for your sins.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 ESV

At the end of 2016, I wrote down the goals I wanted to achieve for 2017. Writing down your goals is imperative for holding yourself accountable for achieving your goals. Setting checkpoints to review your goals is essential to staying on track.

I reviewed my goals bi-monthly and I thought it would be fun to do an end-of-year goal review. Before I share my goals and progress, I wanted to share the tips that I feel helped me achieve my goals.

Planning

Goal setting is would absolutely nothing without a plan. Great you have a goal but how do you plan to get it done. How are you going to get from $1,000 a month to $2,000 a month, 180 pounds to 160 pounds, receptionist to account specialist? My point is going from a to b doesn't happen simply because you wrote it down on a piece of paper. You have to sit down and brainstorm the actions you need to take in order to create your desired change.

Creating Systems

As crazy as it sounds, creating systems has been imperative to my productivity and success this year. Although creating systems can be time-consuming because it does take trial and error to find what works best for you.

For example, if you have a weight loss goal of 40 lbs. this year understanding your habits and trying different things can make or break your weight loss journey. If you're an early riser on the weekend it would be best to try a 3-day workout plan (i.e., Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday). If you know your office usually has treats that you love or lunch delivered on Friday it's likely best to make Friday a cheat day.

My point is the best way to create a win-win system is to take note of your environment, know when you are at your best, and plan for some fun. For example, I would love to sit down and write 5 blog posts in one day but that is just not realistic for me so every month I plan for a 3-4 days blog batch session. I always plan it for the middle of the month because I know the beginning and end of the month are hectic times for me.

Adapting/Changing Course

Every good planner has a backup plan. Well, I think, every good planner knows how to adapt and readjust their course when necessary. Sometimes you'll find during your plan that it just won't work for your goal. Most of the time it's because of things that are out of our control or knowledge we didn't have when we created the plan.

But the thing about planning is when you have good habits and you're adaptable, you can still make your goals happen. For example, one of my goals this year was to grow my blog traffic. I did a lot of research, tried a lot of different tactics, but didn't see a lot of results. But I kept going at it anyway even though I wasn't seeing any change. This actually takes me to my next point.

Putting Myself Out There

I did not see any changes in my blog traffic until I stepped outside of my comfort zone. I put myself out there and began attending blogger meetups. These meetups gave me the opportunity to gain a lot of information in a small amount of time from different people all working within my field. For the record, my blog traffic doubled after this meetup and tripled the following month. All because I stepped outside of my comfort zone.

By taking the time to meet new people and being open to learning from others. I was able to adapt my plan and meet my blog traffic goal. Although there is a lot of information available online, in books, and from experts. Most people prefer to receive information from someone they know or trust.

Chellbee End of the Year Review

  • Improve my relationship with God. This is a continuous journey but I've grown a lot this year. I am looking forward to the journey ahead.
  • Prioritize spending time with my family. Naturally, I'm a hermit so we started doing Sunday Dinners. We eat, laugh, talk, and play spades together. Sunday dinners have become something I always look forward to and think about throughout my week.
  • Publish my first book. The funny thing is I had not planned to release the Faith Journal. The truth is I was writing a completely different book but God had other plans. A month before the release I dropped one idea for His will and it has been a blessing.
  • Grow my blog and brand. This has been an up-and-down battle. But I reach several of my longtime goals, readjusted my focus, and am thankful for the opportunities that have been afforded to me this year. More than anything else I'm thankful for every comment, like, tweet, and email from each one of you.

Make sure you download your super cute goal-setting worksheet to ensure you have all you need to make the most of this year.

Still, wondering if you should write down your goals? Here are 3 reasons why you should:
  1. Create a road map for the year! Take notes of your lessons learned and roadblocks.
  2. Hold you accountable for taking control of your goals.
  3. Remove the barriers that cause you to repeatedly fall short of completing your goals. You can't fix what you don’t know is broken.

Every day is what you make of it.

So, let's make the commitment together that we're going to make every day absolutely amazing. We're giving everything we have to create the life that we want today.

3 Ways to Master New Year's Resolution

September 14, 2016

Let me be honest, I have never been a firm believer in New Year's Resolutions. I don't see the point in setting a goal just because of its a new year. Maybe it's the stigma attached to New Year's Resolutions that I have never liked, they usually are empty goals that bear no results.

Year after year without fail people set New Year's Resolutions with no intention of doing anything with them. Let's break the cycle of the ordinary resolution chain.

Over the last 3 months, I have consistently reached my goals. Instead of whining about all the time, I don't have to get things done. I decided to just do it, one day at a time.

The biggest mistake I made in my goal setting was piling all my work up into one day. Boy did I dread that day? Then again, who would look forward to a day filled with work!

“Mindsets play strange tricks on us. We see things the way our minds have instructed our eyes to see.”- Muhammad Yunus

The biggest contribution to my change is MINDSET. I realized I want to have more tomorrow than I do today. The day that I decided to get excited about working towards my goals is the day everything changed for me.

The 4 W's helped too, mainly because they enabled me to ditch the excuses and execute my plans accordingly. Finally, I began to lead the life I dreamed of and stepped into my God given destiny.

Instead of waiting until December to decide what your New Year Resolutions are or lack thereof. Let's make a list of our goals and identify the habits necessary to achieve them. The key to successful goal setting is creating productive habits. So this time around tries using a habit tracker. I personally like Fabulous Motivate Me! it's simple and perfect for creating a consistent morning routine for success.

How to Set Goals You Actually Accomplish

August 10, 2016

As a young adult I had a tendency to only set what I seen as attainable goals for myself. Being risk adverse and hating failure sometimes makes it difficult for you to go after what you really want in life.

Why Should you be a Goal Go-Getter?

  • You want to make a change
  • You have something to prove to yourself
  • You ready to stop doing the same thing and expecting different results (after all that's insanity)
  • You want to win

If your new to this Goal Go-Getter scene. Here are a few suggestions on Where to Start

Find a Mentor

No matter what you are trying to do. There is always someone who has walked in your path. Find someone within you field or goal of desire. Here's a great video from Marie Forleo on 'How to Find a Mentor'.

As a thank you for reading my blog, you can download your Day Planner now -no email required!

Re-create your Surroundings

I'm sorry to say it but if you've been wondering around for the last 20 plus years without any goals or goals that truly speak to your purpose. The likeliness is your group of friend probably have too. Like I always say 'You have to run with the runners', you have to surround yourself with like minded people. People who are making moves and not just sitting around talking about 'what they are going to do.'

Do some Research

Words of caution from a research obsessive, don't overdo it. Find out just enough information to get started. If you do to much research you can find yourself deterred, imitating (biggest form of flattery), or intimated.

I tried most goal setting techniques but this simple method of answering the 4 W's helped me set goals that create daily success. After testing several methods I found that we over think things. Especially when we’re starting a new project, overwhelmed by our workload, or just scared of tackling the task head on. Typically this lead to us never getting started or never completing what we started. If you fall into any of those categories, this is the planning method for you. Every night before bed takes 15-30 minutes to think through your 4 W’s.

WHAT do you want to accomplish tomorrow

  • Write it down and post it in a visible place i.e. planner, whiteboard, etc.

WHEN are you going to complete each task

  • Set realistic time frames for you to complete each task.
  • Write down the start and finish time for each task. Allow for buffer time like 15-30 minutes between each task.
  • Keep in mind setting unrealistic time frames to complete your task will lead to you undervaluing your accomplishments.

If you found this post help, then the Action Book is the perfect guide for going from Dreamer to Action Taker!

WHERE are you going to complete each task

  • Decide on a quiet and well lite location where you can complete each task.
  • Remember: Sun light=energy  +  Quiet=focus
  • For example, if you are going to the library, go ahead and pack your bag before bed. This will save you time in the morning.

WHY you need to complete these task

  • Thinking through your why will help you identify your weekly or monthly goals.

HOW will you get your task done

  • Think of any obstacles that may stop you from completing your task (i.e. work obligations, children, events, etc.) and plan accordingly
  • For example, if you know your children and they go to bed at 8pm, plan to start your first task at 815pm.

Chell Bee W’s for August 10th

  • WHAT Read 15 blogs, make comments, and share on social media (any that you love and think are helpful to your Tribe).
  • WHEN Thursday, August 11th 7p-815p
  • WHERE My Bed I need to go to bed as soon as I finish because I have an early morning flight.
  • WHY spread love and support other creatives. Pay it forward! Big picture commenting on other blogs helps me connect with new bloggers and grow my Tribe which is important to my long-term goal of creating a community.
  • HOW Hubby working, leaving work on time (no and if’s or buts about it), and no events planned so I am all clear. If my Hubby was home I would probably plan to do this in the morning (before work), so that I could spend time with him after work.
The steps are really simple, you may not need to write down your how, where, or why every day. But when you first start out, I definitely challenged you to do so until you are in the habit of thinking through that entire process daily.

The Ultimate Guide to Beautiful Professional Engagement Photos

April 04, 2016

When I first received my engagement photos I was underwhelmed, to say the least. Keep in mind I will be the first to say I have extremely high expectations. So I typically am underwhelmed, just being honest. During the wedding planning process, I quickly learned my disappointment was of my own making. Miscommunication or the lack thereof was my downfall.

How to Make a Wedding Planning Binder that will Make you stay Organized!

March 17, 2016
This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience (which means if you make a purchase after clicking a link I will earn a small commission but it won't cost you a penny more)! Click here to read my full disclosure policy.

When I first got engaged I did not have a clue about weddings. I mean literally everything I knew about weddings came from shows like Say Yes to the Dress, Bridezillas, and David Tutera My Fair Wedding.

Needless to say as entertaining as those shows are they did not quite prepare me for the wedding planning process or wedding industry. You need a Wedding Planning Binder If...
  • You are a DIY bride
  • You are planning the wedding yourself (without a wedding planner to handle the process)
  • You have no experience planning weddings

The reality is your wedding will be here before you know it. So it's important to make this process as easy as possible for yourself. Your probably feeling...
  • Stressed
  • Overwhelmed
  • Anxiety
  • Unprepared
  • Nervous
  • Tired

Take it from some one who knows. The best thing you can do to prepare for your beautiful wedding day is create a wedding planning binder that has all your details in one place.

Don't worry Beautiful, I got you covered, there are a few essentials you will need to survive your big day. Your Wedding Planning Binder will
  • Keep you organized.
  • Focused on the task at hand.
  • A bit more relaxed since everything will be contained in one place (instead of your purses, random folders, envelopes, car, etc.).
  • Evolve over time. As you get further along in the planning process you will find that you need less information in your binder once you have confirmed your wedding day vendors.
Every great wedding day binder begins with the pages listed below. I hope this help you beauties with your planning process. Congratulation and I know you are going to have a beautiful day that makes all your dreams come true.

Oh yeah don't forget about creating your wedding registry. Amazon has a universal registry now where you can add items from others stores!

And because I love you so much. I decided to share my Dream Wedding Day Planning Organizer which I created and used on my wedding day. It is classic and perfect, no matter what stage you are in whether you are recently engaged or 30 days from the big day.

You can grab your dream Wedding Day Planner right here!

Wedding Planning Binder Must Haves

  • Contact list Must this way if anyone goes missing during the wedding day, you can easily give them a call since no one goes anywhere without their phone these days. This also keeps you from having to be the bridal party wrangler, you can hand your wedding binder off to a trusted friend to handle the missing person.
  • Wedding Budget Important especially if you’re like me and do not have an endless budget. I definitely struggled to find a wedding budget that fit my needs perfectly especially when it came to keeping track of my DIY project for the wedding. I would suggest printing at least 5 wedding budget planners if you are going to add it to your binder. This will help you create a best case, worst case, and actual budget.
  • Vendor List Really helpful in the beginning of the wedding planning process this will help you keep track of who you spoke to and make the decision-making process easy if you make appropriate notes.
  • Guest list Obvious necessity; your guest list is an important determinant of your wedding cost. There are several online guest list tracker, but personally, I prefer a printable that I can keep in my binder. (I think my OCD is showing, excuse me). But for all you digital beauties The Knot has a great online guest list that pairs perfectly with their wedding website.
  • Business Card Holder If you want to take your wedding planner binder to the next level business card holder will be perfect for storing all those business cards you received believe me you will receive a ton.
  • Contracts and Receipts I found it best to purchase sheet protectors to store my contracts and receipt inside of my wedding planning binder (this will keep this easy to review and safe).

8 Simple Ways to be More Productive Today

October 22, 2015

I wanted to share my simple tips for How to be Productive. I am definitely the person who always has a plan. I live by a planner. I just need to write everything down and get it out of my head. There are tons of options out there, so make sure you chose a planner that works best for you.

Why being Productive should be Important to you?

  • You don't have time to waste. Your busy with work and juggling you're personal life.
  • You are stressed out because you have so much work to do
  • You are working really hard but your results don't match your effort
  • You want to get more done in less time. So you can have more free time.
  • You want to spend time with your family
  • You want to go on vacation or have a night out

Setting intentions for what you want to accomplish is the key to being productive and living intentionally.-Anatole France

Start your day off right

  • Get some sleep! 6-8 hours should suffice. Side note did you know over sleeping can cause you feel tired (how crazy is that).
  • Have a proper breakfast, preferably a light breakfast (i.e. oatmeal, eggs, yogurt, etc.)
  • Have a clarity moment, because the most successful people in the world do (Read: Reinvent Your Morning).

Be Prepared

  • Create your to-do list prior to beginning your work day.
  • Keep a sticky note near you to joint random those.

As a thank you for reading my blog, you can download your Daily Planner now -no email required!

Create a Distraction Free Zone

  • Turn off distractions. Log out of your emails, turn off the TV or music, turn your phone off or on silent (usually covering my phone screen helps).
  • Create an environment that enables you to thrive. When the last time you were most productive? If you can remember then try to recreate that day.

Getting organized and creating a plan is the best way to reduce your stress and increase your productivity. - Chell Bee

Brain Dump

  • Before you get started with your work day. Grab a pen and paper. Literally write down everything that comes to your mind, don't try to make it pretty or make sense. Just write it down as it comes to your mind.
  • Brain dumping is a great way to get clarity and focus on your task at hand. Once it's all out you can stop worry and get started.
  • Sometimes my brain dump is a place for me to vent my frustrations, it's a good way to just get your thoughts out.  If you've read the from Dreamer to Doer Workbook, then you know I'm a huge advocate for brain dumping.

Do Hard Stuff First

  • Get the hard stuff done first. Once its complete you'll feel motivated to keep going and relieve that it's done.
  • Let's face it 9 times out of 10 if you don't put the hard stuff at the beginning of the day, you won't do it.

Meal Plan

  • Prepare your lunch and dinner the night before. Salads or sandwiches are great for lunch, chicken or tuna salad is quick to prepare and keeps well in the fridge.
  • If you can't prepare breakfast ahead of time I recommend oatmeal because you can prep and eat within 15-20 minutes.
  • Recent lesson but having your meals and snack at home makes it so much easier to stay focus. You can grab a quick bite and get back to your to do list.

Time Block

  • Keep a running to do list of all your task
  • Day prior to work day, create a schedule for each task.
  • Give yourself lead way between each task (my personal recommendation is 15-30 minutes)
  • Stop at your designated time. When you work on the same task for extended periods of time, you may begin to loss interest or get bored. This leads to being unproductive (usually on social media or emails).
  • Try to take a 5-10 minute break every 2 hour, go to the restroom or check your phone messages.

Plan for possible Interruptions

  • Group similar task together such as errands, time consuming work, and people task.
  • Writing, budgeting, working from home, or doing school work well plan to stay in.
  • Tasks that call for you to leave the house or spend extended periods of time (2 hours or more) away from your task at head. Should all be planned to be done on the same day.
  • For example, if you need to run errands, call clients or friends, cook dinner, and have plans to go bowling. Plan to do all that on the same day.
  • Tasks that involve people usually take longer than expected and can be disruptive to your concentration.

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream. -C. S. Lewis
We briefly discuss the importance of the running to do list. Well if you don't have a running to do list, because you're new to this planning thing. My recommendation is to start by planning on a daily, every night at the end of your work day create your schedule. After about 3 work days of daily planning, you'll better understand your work habits and be able to develop a more in depth plan.
After day 3, my recommendation is to thoroughly review your lessons learned, fails, and so on. The From Dreamer to Doer Guide takes you through the process of creating an action plan and evaluating your progress.

Why should you live life on purpose?

Finally, you have overcome the productivity beast. But you're still not sure if it's worth it to create a plan for you're life. Personally, having a vision and plan for my life helps me to stay focused on my goals. Without a plan I would not be here talking to you today, I would not have completed b-school, and I definitely would not have a beautiful family of my own.

Let’s face it every great plan is going to have hiccups but you have to learn to work through it and not give up. My point is it is perfectly ok to change your plans. It takes more effort and thoughtfulness to change your plans than it does to simply follow through with them because that what you know. Okay so now I’m going to answer the question I know is on all of your minds.

3 Reasons Why you Should Create a Plan

  1. A plan gives you a road map to reference when you need a reminder of what you are working towards. Your road map helps keep you on track. Just like a GPS does when you’re heading to an unfamiliar place. You become focused on reaching your destination and you begin to silence any distractions.
  2. A plan gives you a future to look forward to because you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to. Don’t be afraid to set high goals for yourself, you have to step outside of where you are today if you want to live your dream life tomorrow.
  3. A plan helps you live intentionally. Living intentionally means you enjoy your life to the fullest and all the moments within it. You don’t allow obstacles to get in your way because you know that obstacles are just brief moments in between joy.
