3 Simple Ways to Make Your New Year's Resolutions Stick

New Year’s resolutions can be an ambiguous beast. Ask a close pal what their resolutions are for the coming year, and they may say something wishy-washy like ‘have more fun’, ‘eat better’ or ‘help others more.’ While the intent might be admirable, these statements mean very little. For a New Year’s resolution to be worth the paper it’s written on, it needs to be noted, focused and achievable. When you see your resolution coming to fruition, and you can witness the impact that the promise to yourself is having, you will be more motivated to stick to it and not let it slide. Look at this advice to help you formulate the best New Year’s resolutions that you will keep.

Think About The ‘How?’

It’s all very well and good deciding to be happier or feel healthier, but you need to dig a little deeper and think about how you’re going to achieve this. Are you going to go on that jaunt to see the Great Wall of China that you have been harping on about for years to try and kick start your endorphins? Are you going to plan out your meals each week and ensure that you are achieving a balanced diet before you venture to the supermarket? By working out the ‘how’ you’re naturally making your resolutions important and you’re already formulating a plan of how to stick to your promises.

Don’t Go Big!

Your New Year’s resolution may be to lose 100lbs. This is a huge aim and doesn’t account for the umpteen mini-goals that you’ll achieve on your quest to shift the weight. You need to break down your ultimate goal into smaller chunks. This way, you will see progress and remain motivated to continue on your path to realizing your resolution. If you want to quit smoking after having the habit for the past decade, don’t force yourself into going cold turkey. Multi-Tasking Can Be Tricky

You won’t be able to travel more, join the gym, volunteer at the local homeless shelter, cut out all alcohol and change your job all within a month. Focus on one or two goals and dedicate all of your time to these. Once they are achieved, you can then move on to the next one. There is nothing worse than attempting to achieve everything all at once only to succeed in none of them.

The New Year is a great excuse to reassess your life and the direction in which you are heading. However, this is something that you can do at any time of the year. Think about your health, ambitions, work life, and see if there are, any tweaks that you can make to achieve a greater level of happiness and contentment. Make 2018 the year in which you stick to your New Year’s resolutions.
